Days Inn? No thank you.

I am working in Williamsburg, VA this week. The town is growing outward and we are opening up in one of the new centers (Kirsten-it will have a UKROPs). The GM for this new store was nice enough to book hotel rooms for Jody (our boss) and me. He had plenty of choices and we left the decision of where up to him. He chose Days Inn. I hope I don't come across as snooty, but this was not even a two star hotel. A newer building (Guest Services, Pool, Dining Area, and Fitness Center) had been constructed in front of the four story structure that actually contained the rooms. Very misleading when checking in. A lot could be fixed by just cleaning properly or having high speed internet, but they were unable to contribute either. I asked about high speed and the stellar service rep told me, "We are on the waiting list." Indeed. The bed was as hard as the floor and the bathroom was scary.

My boss told me that was my last night there. I checked out the next morning and am now in a trustworty Hampton Inn. Very nice. I gots my internet. I gots my clean room. I gots my nice guest services.

Not related to the story, but I miss my wife greatly. I know you will read this post, and (everyone else can pretend they are done) I love you entirely.

Sorry you had to stay at the Bate's Motel. Glad you're at a trusty Hampton Inn now. You are also so lucky to be near a Ukrops.(for those of you who don't know, it's the best grocery store EVER.)

I miss you too, Lamb. Next weekend can't come soon enough.

Aww. I am glad that you too have such a special love. That warms my heart. I, too, am slightly snooty about where I stay, only because hotel rooms are so expensive and safety is a big factor. Also, it is hard to know where the hotel is in relation to the crime hot-spots in town, so choosing a hotel is kind of like playing russian roulette, except for not so fatal. Or is it? Dun, dun, dun!

I tried posting something earlier, but it got lost-- if a comment pops up later on that's similar to this one, I apologize.

But I understand your dismay over the inadequate rooms at the Days Inn. I'm not very familiar with hotels as I don't like staying in them, so I couldn't tell you which are the good ones and which are the bad. I don't think I'll be staying at a Days Inn anytime soon.

And I keep reading reports on the internet about the resurgence of bed bugs in America. Since being nearly eradicated in the last fifty years, they are creeping back into our country due to increased travel throughout the world and because we've switched to healthier, less lethal chemicals used to kill the devils. The very idea of bed bugs creeps me out-- I read of a five star hotel in New York that supposedly had them. Eewww!

Anyway, don't feel like a snob because you want a clean bathroom and a comfy bed. Those should be givens at any hotel, whether it's the Motel 6 or the Hilton. There's no excuse for anything less.

I just have to say that I have slept in a bed in India (that was supposedly five-star) that had bed bugs. I don't know how I survived it. They are like the size of a pin head and white. I think I slept from sheer exhaustion and because there was no where else to go. Thinking about it now makes me crazy.
